New patients: what to expect at your first visit

Before you arrive

Bring: photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, a list of current medications, and the name of your previous dentist so we can request X-rays.

Insurance: tell us your plan when you book and we will verify your benefits before you arrive, so you know what is covered.

Anxious? Say so. We will plan a slower visit and talk through everything before we do it, and nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) is available if it would help.

What happens at the visit

1. We talk. What brought you in, what has bothered you, what you would like to change, and anything in your health history that matters.
2. Comprehensive exam. Every tooth, your gums, your bite, and an oral cancer screening.
3. Digital X-rays when needed — low-dose, and only as often as your risk requires.
4. Cleaning. For most patients, a professional cleaning is done the same day. If the exam shows gum disease, we will explain why a deeper cleaning is needed and schedule it.
5. Your plan. If anything needs attention, you leave with a written plan, the cost of each item, and what your insurance is expected to cover — before anything is scheduled.

For families

We see children and adults, and we are happy to book family members back-to-back. For young children, a first visit is short and friendly: a look, a count, and a chance to get comfortable.
