Dentistry for the whole family, in one Pflugerville office
Most families end up with two dentists: a pediatric office across town for the kids and another practice for the adults. We built Radiant Dentistry ATX so that one office, one phone number and one Saturday morning can cover everyone. Dr. Richa Wahi treats patients from their first teeth to their retirement, and the front desk books parents and children back-to-back so nobody waits twice.
Children’s visits: what to expect
A first visit is deliberately short and easy. Your child meets the team, rides in the chair, has their teeth counted and, if they are happy to, gets a gentle polish and fluoride. We talk with you about brushing, bottles, pacifiers, thumb-sucking and snacks, because the habits at home do more for a child’s teeth than anything we do in the chair. Checkups every six months follow the same pattern, with digital X-rays only when there is a reason for them.
Children who are nervous are never rushed. We explain each step in plain words, let them hold the mirror, and stop if they ask. For treatment on an anxious child, nitrous oxide is available. If a very young child needs extensive work, or a case is outside what a general practice should handle, we say so and refer to a pediatric specialist we trust.
Preventing cavities: sealants, fluoride and habits
Cavities are the most common chronic disease of childhood, and almost entirely preventable. Three things do most of the work:
- Sealants on the chewing surfaces of the first and second permanent molars, which arrive around ages 6 and 12. They seal the deep grooves where toothbrushes cannot reach.
- Fluoride varnish at checkups, which hardens enamel and can reverse the earliest white-spot decay.
- Habits: brushing twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste (a smear for toddlers, a pea for older children), flossing once teeth touch, and keeping sugary drinks to mealtimes.
The American Dental Association’s guide to baby teeth explains why primary teeth matter even though they fall out: they hold space for the adult teeth and shape speech and chewing. The AAPD’s parent FAQ covers the first-visit timing we follow.
Teens: wisdom teeth, mouthguards and straightening
Teenage years bring their own list. We monitor wisdom teeth with a panoramic X-ray around age 16 to 18 and remove them in the office when they are the straightforward kind. Athletes get a custom mouthguard that actually stays in. And for crowding or gaps, clear aligners let a self-conscious teenager straighten their teeth without metal braces.
Adults and grandparents
The same office handles cleanings and checkups, fillings, crowns, implants and dentures, plus same-day emergency care when a tooth breaks on a Saturday. Because one dentist knows the whole family’s history, we spot the patterns, from a parent’s gum disease to a child’s grinding, earlier.
Cost and insurance
Preventive care for children, including exams, cleanings, fluoride and sealants, is covered at or near 100% by most PPO plans, and we verify every family member’s benefits before the visit. Families without insurance can use the new patient special for each new patient, and we quote any treatment in writing before it is scheduled. See insurance and financing for the plans we commonly accept.

Kids & Family Dentistry: your questions answered
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by the first birthday or within six months of the first tooth, and we see children from their first teeth. Early visits are short: a look, a count, fluoride if needed, and advice on brushing, bottles and thumb-sucking.
Yes. We schedule family members back-to-back so one trip covers everyone, and a parent can stay with a young child the whole time.
Sealants are a thin protective coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth, where most childhood cavities start. They take minutes, need no drilling, and most PPO plans cover them for children. Dr. Wahi usually recommends them when the first and second permanent molars come through, around ages 6 and 12.
We go at the child's pace: a tour, a ride in the chair, counting teeth, and no surprises. For anxious children who need treatment, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available. Very young children who need extensive work, or complex cases, may be referred to a pediatric specialist.
Most PPO plans cover children's exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride and sealants at or near 100%. We verify the plan before the visit so you know what is covered.
Only when there is a reason: to check between teeth once they touch, to watch adult teeth developing, or after an injury. Our digital X-rays use a fraction of the radiation of older film, and we follow the American Dental Association's guidance on how often they are taken.
